Meet one of our apprentices

My name is Oliver Marina. I completed my GCSEs in 2021 as a student of Glenmoor and Winton Academies, passing my exams at grade 5 and above, including English, Geography and Design, which were the subjects that interested me the most.

With my strong passes, I had various options, including taking my A-levels at sixth-form, which is the route most of my peers took. However, as I have always been interested in AutoCAD drawings and surveying, I started to research local surveying practises and contacted Sircle to enquire about work experience opportunities as I was considering more of a work/ study future rather than staying in full-time education.

Upon sending my C.V in and a successful interview, Sircle agreed for me to undertake two weeks of work experience to see if this was the right career path for me. I chose Sircle as I felt they offered the widest range of surveying services to allow me to develop and train in several areas of surveying. I thoroughly enjoyed those two weeks and at the end, I was given the amazing opportunity to train with Sircle as an apprentice.

I am now seven months into my apprenticeship at Sircle, which I am still really enjoying. I am working as a CAD Technician within the CAD and Surveying department, where I support the work of the Land and Building surveying teams across a number of projects, from small topographical projects to large hospital sites. The work is fast-paced and varied.

Sircle have also given me the opportunity to work towards becoming an Associate Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which will take another 18 months to achieve but will allow me to progress my career within the industry.

During my time at Sircle, I have learnt many new skills and met lots of new people. I also feel my confidence has grown, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of my apprenticeship brings.

Overall, it really has been a fantastic opportunity and offers a good work-study balance within a great company.
