Case Study:

Fire services: education

Our clients include:

  • Ambitions Academies Trust
  • Activate Learning
  • Arts University Bournemouth
  • University of Cambridge.

Knowing what fire assets you have, and where they are in your building, is essential for ensuring you have the right response tactics in place. And your fire compartments must be compliant with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Many of our education clients choose to include their fire assets and compartments in their CAD drawings, for ensuring they have up-to-date information and are meeting the required safety standards.

How we complete your project

Our fire survey and fire compartmentation survey services can be used separately or together for maximum cost-effectiveness. For your fire survey, we’ll work with you to put together a bespoke survey scope, which can cover:

  • Fire alert equipment, detection equipment and signage
  • Their locations, what conditions they’re in and when they were last serviced
  • Fire door locations and conditions, as part of a building outline survey
  • Risk assessments and the creation of evacuation plans.

For your compartmentation survey, we’ll identify where your compartments run and record their location, type resistance and any breaches that may have happened. If we find or suspect a breach, we’ll take photographs and make a note of its size, risk level and likely cause.

We’ll let you know about re-instalment options and estimate how much these will cost where relevant, and can add this to your repair tender documents.

You’ll receive a report of all our findings, and drawings of where your compartment lines are. This will show breaches and non-compliant areas, and recommendations on how to improve these.

The benefits

A comprehensive set of fire drawings will help you to manage your fire risk plans better, and make them more efficient. This in turn lowers costs. With compartmentation reports, you’ll know what potential risks there are in your building, and be able to take steps to prevent fire from spreading.

All of your drawings will be easy to understand and share with stakeholders and contractors. If you use both of our services together, we can merge your drawings and give you the most accurate picture of your estate.

Moving forward

With buildings frequently changing because of refurbishment, maintenance works and everyday use, your drawings will need to be reviewed regularly to ensure they’re accurate.

We have a rolling inspection programme that covers any changes your building goes through. We’ll carry out a visual inspection of your properties over 3 – 5 years, depending on how they’re used and what sizes they are, and update your drawings accordingly.

"We used Sircle to survey our properties to create accurate Fire drawings as well as bespoke evacuation plans, from the planning and building of the scope right through to the professionalism of their survey team was a credit to them. The resulting drawings have allowed the University to better manage the risk and we continue to use Sircle to ensure the accuracy of the drawings are maintained. I have no hesitation in recommending them to all of my fellow H&S/Fire Officer colleagues for all your surveying and drawing needs."
